The Synthesis of Hexazine by use of Azide-Azide Click Chemistry with an Ammoniumide Catalyst
Abstract: We report the first synthesis and comprehensive characterisation of hexazine, last in the series of 6-membered nitrogen heterocycles. A novel azide-azide click reaction was developed to facilitate this synthesis. Hexazine may serve as a non-carcinogenic alternative solvent to benzene, function as a mild amine-base, and even act as a weak nucleophile for further synthesis. The detailed exploration of such is left as an exercise for the reader.
